It’s time to go Lambda. I’m not talking about your fraternity pledging days. I’m talking about Amazon’s Lambda,? Amazon Web Service’s new contribution to the computer programming world.
According to Amazon Web Service’s CTO Werner Vogels, Lambda will allow programmers to reduce effort on their part. All they’ll have to do is write the code, define event triggers, and the program will automatically run after that. This is expected to save the programmer time, money and work. Lambda is also expected to do the managing, scaling and monitoring. Less than a second after an event is triggered, it’s processed through cloud functions. Lambda can follow principals of function business logic, data business states and interactions in between, as well as the basics. Though Lambda only supports Java script for the time being, but Mr. Vogels assures it will support other computer languages as this service becomes more well known. It’s advised that after you create your function, you give it content and resources at that time. Amazon is giving consumers the free sample to entice our potential appetite for Lambda. For those who are willing to attempt this endeavor, Amazon Web Service will provide a million free request a month and 3.2 million seconds of computer time a month.
It’s been eight years since Amazon got into the web service game. It’s now up there as one of the top. Back in 2012, Amazon was voted the best cloud provider of them all, beating out names like Microsoft, Verizon/Terremark, and Century Link/Savvis. So they’re in good position to make this announcement about their Lambda service. However, I’m a little weary of the promises it will do all the managing, scaling, and monitoring for you. If that can be pulled off, great! But at the moment, it sounds a little too good to be true. What do you think of Amazon Web Service’s Lambda?
Hewlett-Packard, one of the biggest computer makers ever, is splitting up. The newer company will aim at building computer storage, data service equipment, software services and other business technical services. The other company will continue to build computers and printers.
Both companies will still be traded on the New York Stock Exchange. The new business technology oriented company is called Hewlett-Packard Enterprise. This split up will be official around October 2015, when their 2015 fiscal year ends. The split will take place under the leadership of Meg Whitman, HP’s chief executive. She didn’t like the split at first, but after watching her competitors on all sides thrive, she saw it was necessary, believing this will give the company a much needed competitive edge. They’re not the first and only ones to do this. Other mega tech conglomerates from IBM to Microsoft have either split up their company or gone totally private (which means they don’t have public shareholders to answer to).
Hewlett-Packard has been struggling for years now. In fact, this split up is part of the company’s five year program to turn things around. It goes to show you how critical business and cloud technology has become. These days, millions of systems can become one entity, thanks to the cloud. This cuts the server out and computers can interact with each other better than ever before. As more businesses realize this and change their storage and data habits, Hewlett-Packard couldn’t have picked a better time to take advantage of this trend. But this company has been through so much in recent years. This divide will split over $112 billion worth of revenue. Stocks are up 5% thanks to this move, but this move will also cost 5,000 jobs.? Can HP use this split to turn the company around? Will HP Enterprise succeed by serving businesses with these critical services? Or will it be too little too late?

Gone are the days of floppy disk; thank goodness! Today, the hard drive is what’s holding and transporting our precious and often critical information. But the hard drive I’m about to talk about is unlike any other.
Submitted for your approval is the first ever 10TB hard drive. It’s official name is the Western Digital Ultrastar He10. It’s still in the sampling phase, but this is only a part of Western Digital’s production push. Not only is there this 10TB helium-filled hard drive, there is the 8TB helium-filled hard drive and a 6TB air-filled hard drive. The Western Digital 10TB has helium that is sealed in the drive. It provides less resistance than regular air and requires less power, consuming nearly a fourth less energy than other hard drives. This 10TB drive uses SMR, or shingled magnetic recording. This increases areal density, which is especially good for cloud and cold storage. The Western Digital 6TB air-filled hard drive is being shipped. The Western Digital Ultrastar He10 is very much in testing phase. I have no information on a debut date, so don’t go rushing to your computer store just yet.
But when this comes out, it shouldn’t be as expensive as one may think. The 6TB goes for around $400-$500. The 10TB is suspected to go around $1,000 when the shipping, selling and buying starts. Western Digital claims this drive will have the lowest cost per gigabyte. I guess we’ll see. Keep in mind this will be a novelty item, the first of it’s kind. I wonder if that will factor into the pricing, and even the release date of the Ultrastar He10. I’m no scientist or environmentalist expert, but this sounds energy friendly. But more to the point, you can get lots and lots of data on this thing, maybe even too much (yes, I do believe there is a such thing). So is the ultimate hard drive going to be a hit or flop?

You heard it right ” Get a free year of LastPass Premium!”
If you are like me you have a ton of user names and passwords, on a lot of different sites. Using the same user name and password over and over is not only stupid, but it is dangerous and impossible. Every site has different naming rules for your passwords, must have 1 capital letter, needs a symbol, can’t have a symbol, needs a number and a capital letter, this list goes on for ages. Who can remember which variation of your user names and passwords that you used for 50 different web sites? LastPass can.
I was like most people, I knew my main password and the variations to an extent, and honestly relied on my browser to remember my password on a lot of things. But then disaster struck, I needed computer repair at my office in Boston. It was a bad hard drive and although data recovery was successful, my browser settings were reset and all my stored passwords were GONE.
I spoke to my boss about this and he immediately chimed in with “why aren’t you using LastPass?” To which I asked what it was, and he told me that LastPass stores all your passwords in 1 spot. All I would need to remember from now on was my LastPass password and I would never need to learn another password again. I was excited, but skeptical at the same time. What if someone hacked my LastPass account? Then they would have a smorgasbord of information from my student loans, to my credit cards even my bank account.
So I did my homework. ?LastPass has NEVER been hacked, NEVER. They are a security focused app, dedicated to securing passwords.?Furthermore, like any other service,?you should be using two-factor authentication with LastPass. If you do, someone with your master password still will not be able to access your account, even in the event of a breach. If you want to take it to the next level, you can?put together this awesome thumb drive-based system?and?enable these features?for extra two-factor security. LastPass is available for your desktop, and all smartphones and tablets! LastPass is also great for any types of businesses, like Law Firms or Dental Offices where you have a lot of different places you need to log in to.?
