Does US Fall Behind In Technology?

Two stories made headlines this year. One was the debacle involving Obamacare’s website. Two was the glitch involving EBT cards back in October. And as far as American technology goes, this may just scratch the surface.

Is the US government being cheap when it comes to 2013 technology? The US Air Force cancelled a billion dollar supply management system. A budget to fix the turbulent US air traffic control system is over budgeted and overdue. According to a tech firm called the Standish Firm, less than 5 percent of government tech contracts have been successful. Half were considered challenged and around 45% were a total failure.

Look, I know our nation has budget problems. I know we’re around $18 trillion in debt. Much of that belongs to China, Japan and other nations who seem to be doing better with education and technology. But we shouldn’t be skimping on technology, not in the 2010s. There was one school system that gave kids free iPads in the classroom. Then, because it was too much for the school district, they cut it. For a nation that’s in the 20’s in education, does that make any sense? And if?the government is supposed to lead our nation and follow the example, shouldn’t they do a better job?
