Chinese hackers have been attacking the New York Times over the last 4 months. The Times and computer security experts Mandiant tracked the intruders for weeks to study their movements. The attacks started around the time that the Times investigated relatives of Wen Jiabao that had accumulated a fortune worth several billion dollars through business dealings. The hackers tried to cloak the source of the attacks by first penetrating computers at U.S. universities and routing the attacks through then. This matches many other attacks that have come from China. They first installed malware. This also identified the attacker from a strain that has been used in the past by China.
